DNA data storge in composite nucleic acid-polymer fibers

Incorporating biomolecules as integral parts of computational systems represents a frontier challenge in bio- and nanotechnology. Using DNA to store digital data is an attractive alternative to conventional information technologies due to its high information density and long lifetime. We investigate composite polymer/DNA fibers as storage medium for digital information in the form of oligonucleotides. For a first proof-of-concept, we have produced electrospun and melt-electrowritten fibers of the composites, and studied their information integrity and retrieval capacity.
