The generation and manipulation of spins is a long-standing topic for spintronics. Spin-to-charge current conversion based on spin-orbit effects [spin Hall effect (SHE), Edelstein effect (EE)] is an essential ingredient to detect spin currents and, in particular, for the realization of the proposed magneto-electric spin-orbit (MESO) logic. The spin generation or detection materials usually require strong spin-orbital or exchange coupling, while the spin transport materials are the opposite which need small spin dispassion. The different requirements make it crucial to optimize the interfaces. One of the solutions is to utilize the proximity effect, which can combine different physical properties into the same material system. Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure with the short-range interfacial interaction provides a playground for proximity materials design. The interlayer coupling can tune the electronic band structure's energy dispersion and spin texture of the electronic band structure, leading to new properties for novel applications.
