Tech transfer meetings always show the very same scenario: a small cluster of
extremely successful tech-transfer research centers opposite to a silent
majority of research areas that feel unable to reach the same goals. The first
ones even brag about giving a bank check back to researchers by Christmas,
while the second group struggles to be generate sustainable tech transfer
models. This is happening while the ration researchers / investments is
shaking in many areas. But while we sit and endlessly discuss this, the world
is changing and is giving rise to new business models. Uber has no cars, and
Facebook has no content. Bla, bla.. But how could a "condensed matter" post-
doc increase the country's GDP? - and fill his own pocket?"
**Bio: **
Dr. Xavier Marti obtained a Phd in materials science in 2010 for his research
work in spintronics. While working at UC Berkeley, he boosted IGSresearch in
order to use spintronics-based technology from the nanoscale up to geophysics.
The devices manufactured by IGSresearch are nowadays installed in numerous
locations from South America to Eastern Europe. He is co-author of over 80
scientific publications cited over 2000 times, and holds patents either as co-
inventor or co-owner. In 2013, he co-founded the incubator Penyalab at
Universitat de Barcelona. He is a TEDx speaker and an enthusiastic scientific
method evangelist who has engaged over 35,000 followers in the web page
"Magnets Solve Problems".
