In my talk, I will explain how some rather abstract concepts can be used in efficient computations for light-matter interactions. I will speak about how the interaction of light pulses with objects moving at any constant velocity can be systematically computed using relativistic invariance, how selection rules for biphoton states interacting with matter are easily found in a tensor product of electromagnetic Hilbert spaces, and how both the definition and quantification of the helicity contained in matter are possible thanks to conformal invariance. Additionally, I will explain a framework for combining quantum-chemical simulations with Maxwell solvers, which allows one to compute the optical response of devices such as, e.g. cavities, containing molecular materials.
