Optical random forces in dipolar systems: control colloidal iterations

Random optical fields, such as thermal fluctuating electromagnetic fields, induce interactions between colloidal particles. These fluctuation-induced interactions can be tuned by choosing an appropriate spectral energy density, and being able to engineer dynamics and equilibrium configurations. In this talk, we cover the principles of forces induced by optical fields, from deterministic fields (such as Gaussian Beams) to random fields. Also, we discuss how to compute and tailor the optical forces between colloidal particles using a coupled electric and magnetic dipoles model, as well as the application of these tools for customizing the properties for two, three, and more particles systems using discrete multi-wavelength or eventually continuous spectral energy densities.
