Random Walks: a physicist's journey from the lab into the world

Simone Eizagirre Barker is a physicist working in the quantum computing industry. She has an interdisciplinary research background in experimental quantum optics and materials science, with a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Now, she works in the commercial team at Nu Quantum, a quantum networking startup building the hardware to interconnect quantum processors into more powerful, distributed computing architectures. She has also worked as a freelance writer, editor, and broadcaster covering science and technology for radio, podcasts, and magazines. In this talk, Simone will discuss the transition from academia to industry, the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration, creating scientific impact beyond the laboratory, and the importance of curiosity and exploration in finding a career path that works for you.
