The E-MOSAICS project: simulating the formation and evolution of galaxies and their globular cluster systems across full cosmic history We present the E-MOSAICS project (MOdelling Star cluster system Assembly In Cosmological Simulations in the context of EAGLE): a suite of cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations run with the EAGLE model that includes the semi- analytic model MOSAICS for star cluster formation and disruption. This is the first work to self-consistently model the formation and evolution of the entire star cluster population through cosmic history in fully cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation. The project includes zoom simulations of Milky Way-like analogues, galaxy groups and massive galaxy clusters. We will show how globular cluster and young massive cluster populations form through the same mechanisms and how globular cluster population properties have finally become quantitative tracers of the formation histories of their host galaxy.
