The isolation of graphene and other 2D materials has revolutionized materials
science. Their intrinsic properties change drastically when going from the
bulk into the true 2D limit where they exhibit exotic properties. While many
groups have focused on the study and exploitation of the intrinsic properties
of 2D materials, very limited work has been devoted on the engineering of
their intrinsic properties. The “all-surface†nature of these materials
makes device fabrication complex, and so far only the most conventional micro
and nanofabrication or tailoring routes have been explored. In this talk I
will present novel routes currently under exploration in our group to tailor
the intrinsic properties of Graphene and Molybdenum Disulphide devices. I will
present results on lateral PN homo-junctions, memristive field effect
transistors and photonic crystal cavities.
