At the nexus of physics and physiology The seminar covers an introduction to wound healing – a sum of complex processes from microscopic to macroscopic levels. An energy conservation argument is coupled with physiological parameters such as the scaling of the metabolic rate with body mass, to monitor the growth of new tissue. Our studies imply that calculating the wound healing rate may be the parameter which yields the most insight into the healing process with obvious diagnostic and therapeutic implications. I will address the possibility of speeding up wound healing with knowledge from electrostatics as well as prolonging it, to reduce scarring, with the use of starch.
