Quantum simulations: our quantum theatre for atoms and photons ** Quantum simulations: our quantum theatre for atoms and photons. ** Enrique Solano, Ikerbasque Research Professor UPV/EHU Quantum simulations consist in the intentional reproduction of the quantum dynamics of a physical system on another quantum system which is, typically, more controllable. From this point of view, quantum simulations represent our quantum theatre, where atoms and photons falsify their intrinsic nature to mimic other behaviours with different purposes. We will introduce the general field of quantum information and quantum simulations with pedagogical examples in different quantum platforms. Furthermore, we will discuss the possible place of quantum simulations in the history of imitation and their ultimate capacity of representing possible and impossible physics.
