This talk will discuss the properties of the optical forces produced by
localized sources (i.e., elementary source distributions resembling
nanoantennas, probes and/or active nanoparticles). Particular attention
will be devoted to the optical manipulation and trapping of resonant
nanoparticles, as well as to the force density induced when a localized
source is immersed in different media such as lossy dielectrics,
metamaterials with negative permittivity and permeability, and zero-index
media.
