A Molecular Interactions’ Roadmap to 2D Functional Nanostructures Nature builds its functional structures by tuning molecular interactions from single molecules to supramolecular assemblies. Our laboratory focuses on the rational mimicking of 2D nanostructures to achieve specific functionalities inspired by natural systems. In this talk, I will discuss the use of scanning probe microscopies (SPM) to image, track and program self-assembly both under ultra high vacuum (UHV) as well as at the liquid/solid interface. In particular, I will describe molecular architectonic principles to code bio-inspired functional response. At the heart of our approach is the design of metal-organic catalytic centers for CO2 activation and artificial photosynthesis.
