In search of the strongest steel: atomistics for daily life Engineering is commonly associated with macroscopic scale design. Nowadays, however, multiscale approaches are unavoidable in most engineering domains. I will present an application of molecular dynamics atomistic simulations aimed to study the potential and limits of nanostructuring a very simple material, a ferritic steel, in order to made stronger the currently strongest (yet ductile) metallic material commercially available by millions of tons. A material that you have used, perhaps unaware, this very morning.
