Computational Cosmology
Modern measurements in cosmology are extremely precise, but the models used for their interpretation are insufficient, causing a great loss of valuable information. This is particularly dramatic in the case of weak gravitational lensing, as most of the information is concentrated on small spatial scales, where several physical effects contaminate the signal of interest, and perturbative methods are no longer useful for their modeling. Scientific discoveries with weak lensing will require precise modeling of these effects. In this thesis, we develop several new techniques that allow us to model one such effect, that of galaxy intrinsic-alignments, and to measure it in detail in cosmological simulations.
