The Pint of Science Festival is an international event that invites the scientific community to share their knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere. DIPC sponsors and participates in this initiative to bring science closer to the public.

On Wednesday DIPC participates in:

• "Los fotones saben de cáncer (sin leer el horóscopo)" with Laura Navarro Cozcolluela. In this talk I will discuss the union of physics and medicine in positron emission tomography (PET), a nuclear medicine imaging technique commonly used to study diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer's. In particular, I will explain in a pleasant way how PET images are obtained, from the time the radioisotope that is introduced into the body emits positrons, through the detection of the two photons produced. In particular, I will explain in an entertaining way how PET images are obtained, from the time the radioisotope that is introduced into the body emits positrons, through the detection of the two photons that are produced afterwards, to the formation of the final image. • "Metales en la medicina" with Alfredo Manuel Rotundo and Marta Costa Verdugo. Transition metals are precious elements, as they are key components in a wide variety of human technologies. However, they are often considered hazardous pollutants that should be avoided or eliminated. In this talk, we will describe how metals also provide crucial solutions to our health problems and help to improve our well-being.
