Our researchers participate in the Pint of Science Festival

The Pint of Science Festival is an international event that invites the scientific community to share their knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere. DIPC sponsors and participates in this initiative to bring science closer to the public.

On Tuesday, DIPC researchers will take center stage with a talk:

  • "Eclipes y descubrimientos" with Silvia Bonoli (in Spanish). This summer we’ll be lucky enough to witness one of the most amazing spectacles nature has to offer: a total solar eclipse. But… are eclipses actually useful? Let’s explore the major scientific discoveries that have been made possible by eclipses, travelling from our own planet to the most remote known worlds in our galaxy.

  • "Designing topological two-dimensional materials" with Isidora Araya Day (in English). Most objects we see occupy three dimensions of space, and for the longest time scientists thought that was all there was. This idea changed during this century, where hundreds of two-dimensional materials have been discovered and measured. Some materials have properties that are universal and see little change, others are magnetic, and others conduct better than others. It is, however, very hard to find a single material with several interesting properties. In this talk I will tell the story of topological materials and how we combine different materials to get the ideal mix.
