The documentary, produced by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU, reviews the life and work of the professor and includes his reflections on science. The screening will be presented by Iker Badiola Etxaburu, director of the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU, followed by a discussion between Pedro Miguel Etxenike and Ana Urkiza Ibaibarriaga, president of Eusko Ikaskuntza.
The documentary “El secreto de la Naturaleza”, produced by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU and directed by José Antonio Pérez Ledo will be shown as part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the association Zientziaren Giltzak of Ondárroa. It is a work that traces the life and work of Pedro Miguel Etxenike Landiribar, professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the UPV/EHU, president of the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and honorary president of Jakiunde, Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of the Basque Country. A documentary that serves to talk about the importance of science, which Etxenike summarizes as "a transforming seed that gives us hope for a fairer, more humane future. Science is culturally important, economically decisive and aesthetically beautiful".Thus, the documentary, 55 minutes long, presents the audience with Etxenike's reflections on science, asking what it is and what it consists of, in a close and intimate tone. A tone that José Antonio Pérez Ledo, director of the documentary, defines as "that of the scientist who knows that fascination, surprise and humor are excellent vehicles for the transmission of ideas. That emotions are the best container for the highest reason. Hence, in the interview, Etxenike develops some of his theories, forged over decades, in a way that is always fascinating, always passionate".
The screening of the documentary will serve as a starting point for the subsequent discussion between the writer and president of Eusko Ikaskuntza Ana Urkiza and Pedro Miguel Etxenike in which the audience will be able to talk with Etxenike and contribute to the reflections raised.
