As part of Jot Down Ciencia 2024, the workshop "Evolution of animals: lions, deer, gorillas and humans" has been organized with Aranzadi.
The workshop will be led by Jexux Tapia and Manu Ceberio (Aranzadi). We will compare the real skeletons of lions (Panthera leo), gorillas (Gorilla gorilla) and deer (Cervus elaphus) with replicas of hominid skeletons (Homo erectus, Homo Neanderthalensis, Homo sapiens). The objective is to examine the different anatomical designs and to highlight the most relevant aspects of our evolution by comparing it with that of other animals: the design of our locomotor system, cranial development and release of the hands. The most relevant aspects (frontal vision, locomotion, prehensile capacity and manual dexterity) will be exemplified through practical exercises. The original skeletal materials belong to the scientific collection of Aranzadi, and the replicas to Aranzadi's and J. Tapia's own collection.
The workshop is recommended for accompanied children: 9-14 years old.
The workshop will last one hour and two sessions will be organized on Saturday, May 4:
- First session: 11:00h - 12:00h. Language: Basque.
- Second session: 12:30h -13:30h. Language: Spanish
