Donostia is preparing to receive the world's sixth quantum supercomputer deployed by IBM, Quantum System One, but what do we really know about this technology that could transform science, education and industry? In this lecture, Javier Aizpurua, director of the Basque Quantum strategy that leads the development of quantum technologies in the Basque Country, describes the basic concepts in which these technologies are based.
The lecture will be given in Basque with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
About the speaker
Javier Aizpurua is a physicist who studies the interaction between light and nanostructured matter in order to develop applications in miniaturized optoelectronics, biosensorics or quantum information, among others. He is Ikerbasque Professor at DIPC, where he coordinates the Basque Quantum strategy of the Basque Government. After his PhD at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Aizpurua continued his training at Chalmers University in Gothenburg (Sweden) and at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Maryland (USA), to later join DIPC and the Materials Physics Center of San Sebastian (CSIC-UPV/EHU) where he has developed his research from 2004 to 2023, forming a world reference Nanophotonics Theory group. He has recently won the Euskadi Research Award and he has been named Distinguished Researcher of the UPV/EHU.
