This workshop aims to kickstart a new parameter-masked mock data challenge for ambitious clustering analyses of non-linear scales and non-Gaussian statistics, moving beyond the limitations of an explicitly HOD-based challenge. Key considerations in planning this project are modelling on emission line galaxies (ELG) and requirements for the underlying N-body simulations. Hence, this workshop brings together experts on different modelling approaches (HOD, SHAM, semi-analytic, semi-empiric, hydro simulations) as well as experts on sample variance reduction methods such as fixed/paired ICs and control variates.
The main goal of the meeting is to produce a roadmap for the next ~1-2 years of effort of cross-validation beyond HOD mocks. With the roadmap, we aim to identify the aspects of presently available synthetic data that fall short of the needs of near-term and planned cosmological analyses; we aim to scope out the effort needed to improve upon these shortcomings and to design the next challenge according to the key priorities identified in the roadmap. Ideally, we would like to start writing a paper with you on the challenge design and planned uncertainty quantification methods following this.
