Organized by DIPC in the framework of the program Women and Science promoted in cooperation with the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, next Tuesday we will receive the visit of a very special guest, Amena Karimyan.
 
Astronomy to Keep the Breath of Science

In the light of Afghan sunsets, under different latitude skies, a brief cultural and historical review of Afghan astronomy will be presented. In a country with no academic astronomy so far, KAYHANA Astronomical Group`s story and educational programme and its aims and goals towards the future will also be reviewed and discussed with the audience.

Amena Karimyan is a civil engineer and first woman in the field of development and teaching of astronomy in Afghanistan. In 2018 she founded the KAYHANA Astronomical Group, which encourages young women to learn about astronomy. In 2021 Amena and her group won the "Telescope for All" project award from the International Astronomical Union. Amena was listed by the BBC among the 100 most inspiring and influential women around the world for 2021. She is the author of the Nature article "Women astronomers in Afghanistan need the world`s support"

Jon Gurrutxaga, Director of Innovation and Internationalization of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, will be in charge of opening the event along with the director of the DIPC, Ricardo Díez Muiño.
