Cinema and Science 2025 school sessions, registration will be open soon!
Still from the movie Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón, 2013)

Between January and March 2025, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the 8th edition of the Cinema and Science cycle, an initiative organized by the Basque Film Archive, the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), and the San Sebastián International Film Festival (SSIFF). The full program of the cycle will be presented in January 2025.
As in previous editions, the Cinema and Science cycle will include special screenings for schools in Donostia, Bilbao, and Vitoria-Gasteiz, with showings in Basque and Spanish. This edition will feature the science fiction film Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón, 2013), and we will have the chance to learn firsthand about the work being done by researchers in the COSMOS department of DIPC and their scientific perspective on the film.

The COSMOS group at DIPC conducts cutting-edge research in cosmology, astrophysics, and particle physics. Their research addresses fundamental problems related to the origin, composition, structure, and evolution of the Universe. They investigate matter-antimatter asymmetry through experimental particle physics, neutrino physics, computational cosmology, galaxy evolution, gravitational lensing, and the nature of dark energy and dark matter.

Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón, 2013)

While repairing a satellite outside their ship, two astronauts suffer a serious accident and are left stranded in space. They are Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first space mission, and veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. The spacewalk mission seems routine, but they are hit by a cloud of space debris and disaster occurs: the satellite and part of the ship are destroyed, leaving Ryan and Matt completely alone, from which point they attempt by any means to solve the problem of returning to the ground.
