DIPC receives the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in Research 2023
The sixth edition of the Radio San Sebastián Awards for Excellence 2023, held on Thursday, November 23 at the Kursaal, distinguished individuals, companies and institutions of Gipuzkoa for being a reference in the territory in their respective fields.
The DIPC was recognized this year at the Radio San Sebastián Awards for Excellence along with other institutions and individuals from Gipuzkoa. The awards ceremony was attended by the deputy general of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, the mayor of Donostia/San Sebastián, Eneko Goia, and prominent figures from the SER channel.
The winners of the 2023 edition, by categories, were the following:
- Research: Donostia International Physics Center
The Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Research category went to the Donostia International Physics Center in recognition of its outstanding work in the promotion and development of scientific research in the field of physics. For promoting communication in its activity and transmitting scientific culture to society, organizing all kinds of informative activities, especially the Passion for Knowledge science festival, which last October brought together several Nobel Prize winners in Donostia/San Sebastián. According to Radio San Sebastián, "DIPC has emerged as a beacon of knowledge and global collaboration. Its commitment to excellence and its ability to attract the world's brightest scientists make it a deserving recipient of the award".
- Company: Salto Systems
Salto Systems was awarded the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Company category for its continued innovation and leadership in the field of electronic security, where facial recognition and biometrics will be predominant in the future for access control.
- Sports: Ion Izagirre, cyclist
Ion Izagirre received the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Sports category for his outstanding cycling career. He was the winner of the 12th stage of this year's Tour de France, between Roanne and Belleville-en-Beajolais, in an edition marked by the 'Grand Depart' from Euskadi.
- Music: Landarbaso Abesbatza
Landarbaso Abesbatza was honored with the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Music category for its dedication to choral music and its outstanding interpretative excellence, underlined this year by becoming the first European choir to win the Asia Grand Prix, one of the world's leading vocal competitions.
- Art and Culture: Jaione Camborda, filmmaker from Donostia/San Sebastián
Jaione Camborda received the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the category of Art and Culture. This filmmaker from Donostia/San Sebastián has made history by being the first Spanish filmmaker to win the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Festival, the highest award at the event.
- Social impact: Nerea Eizagirre, Amaiur Sarriegi and Elene Lete, Real Sociedad de Fútbol players.
Nerea Eizagirre, Amaiur Sarriegi and Elene Lete, Real Sociedad de Fútbol players, were awarded the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Social Impact category in recognition of their commitment to gender equality in sport, which led to the #SeAcabó movement.
- Gastronomy: Idiazabal PDO.
The Idiazabal Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) was distinguished with the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Gastronomy category for its commitment to quality and authenticity in the production of Idiazabal cheese.
- Basque: Egan Literary Magazine
The Egan Literary Magazine was distinguished with the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the Basque language category in recognition of its work in promoting literature in the Basque language and demonstrating in its 75 years of life that the cultural sphere also belonged to the Basque language.
- Iñaki Gabilondo Humanities and Communication Award: Martxelo Otamendi
Martxelo Otamendi receives the Radio San Sebastián Award for Excellence in the category of Humanities and Communication in recognition of his career of more than three decades linked to journalism written in Basque. He has been the dean of the editors of newspapers in Spain until his retirement last June.
- There is another way' Award: Verdini Dantza Taldea
This award, sponsored by Laboral Kutxa and granted by the audience of Radio San Sebastián, seeks to recognize people, companies and entities of Gipuzkoa that improve the society to which they belong and to whom we owe thanks. This year, the 'There is another way' award went to Verdini Dantza Taldea, a dance association made up of dancers with Down syndrome who challenge limits and prejudices through the art of dance.
