Eduardo Saénz de Cabezón joins Kuantikaz blai! - Quantum-Drenched!

To mark the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, the Kutxa Fundazioa and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) are continuing with the series of "Kuantikaz blai! Quantum-Drenched!" talks at Tabakalera. The second event in the series will be taking place on 2 September at the Kutxa Fundazioa Kluba room, on the 1st floor of Tabakalera and will have the participation of Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón, mathematician, lecturer and renowned science popularizer. His talk entitled “Manotazos en una habitación oscura. La llegada de la computación cuántica” [Handslaps in a dark room: the Advent of Quantum Computing] will be tackling in his clear, approachable style one of the great scientific and technological challenges of our time: quantum computing.
More than four decades have passed since the likes of David Deutsch and Richard Feynman raised the possibility of developing a new type of computing based on the laws of quantum physics. Today, quantum computing is an increasingly tangible promise, full of possibilities as well as uncertainties. Are we close to switching on the light in that “dark room” we are still feeling our way around? Are we ready for what it will bring?
Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón is a graduate in Theology and holder of a PhD in Mathematics, he is a tenured lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Computing at the University of La Rioja, and his research is in the field of computational algebra. Sáenz de Cabezón is well known for his work in the scientific popularization of mathematics. Besides being one of the founders of the group of scientific stand-ups The Big Van Theory, he is also a scriptwriter and presenter of the YouTube channel Derivando, as well as the presenter of the programme Órbita Laika (La2, RTVE) and author of several popular science books.
The event is part of the series of talks organised by the Kutxa Fundazioa and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) to disseminate, in a simple way, the special features of quantum physics, and to bring the so-called “second quantum revolution” that we are experiencing closer to the general public, by making known the possibilities and advantages offered by the development of quantum technologies. Admission is free until full capacity has been reached.
