Members of the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa, accompanied by the Deputy for Economic Promotion, Ane Insausti, visited the facilities of Donostia International Physics Center and learned about and the research projects and outreach activities carried out at the centre.

The delegation was received by the director of DIPC, Ricardo Diez Muiño, the scientific director of Basque Quantum (BasQ), Javier Aizpurua, the Economic and Project Management director, Olatz Leis, and the director of Communication and Outreach, Nora González.

During the visit they learned about the history of the DIPC, founded in 2000 as a result of a public-private partnership, as well as the evolution of the centre over the years.

Currently, the DIPC is a centre of international prestige that hosts more than 200 researchers in leading fields of physics and related disciplines, and produces more than 400 scientific publications per year.

The visitors also learned about the details of the Basque Quantum strategy, led by the Department of Education of Basque Government with the involvement of the three provincial councils, which will enable the Basque ecosystem to take advantage of the arrival of IBM's sixth quantum computer in Donostia/San Sebastián.

The visit ended with a tour of the Supercomputing Centre, a benchmark facility in the Basque Country, which houses the Hyperion and Atlas supercomputers and which provides services to the research community of the Basque network of science and technology.
