  • The famous festival that brings science to the bars celebrates its tenth edition on 19, 20 and 21 May. In Donostia/San Sebastian there will be 5 bars offering talks by invited scientists. The programme also extends to Lasarte (19 May), Renteria (20 May) and Irún (21 May).
  • As a novelty, this year Pint of Science incorporates talks in Basque and Spanish, sessions dubbed into sign language, guaranteeing society's access to science.
  • Artificial intelligence, cosmic radiation, cancer and personalised medicine, and the functioning of the brain are some of the topics to be discussed by experts in the field.

With more than a thousand events in 75 locations, the festival will fill bars all over Spain with science on 19, 20 and 21 May. Through informative talks, monologues and experiments lasting between 20 and 30 minutes, researchers from all areas of knowledge will share their work in a very different environment to the usual.

In Donostia, Pint of Science will be held in the bars Bidassoa Taproom, MalaGissona, Duit, Antonieta and Alboka in Donostia, but also on the 19th in Buenetxea (Lasarte), on the 20th in Kantina Lekuona (Errenteria) and on the 21st in Altzola (Irun). With a total of 49 scientific talks covering topics ranging from artificial intelligence to sustainability, as well as medicine and learning, this is the town offering the most talks in the whole country. Among the researchers and scientists taking part in this edition of Pint of Science Donostia are Iliana Quiñones (neurobiologist at the BCBL and Biogipuzkoa), Eneko Aguirre (director of the Hitz centre for language technology) and Iñaki Ordoñez (astrophysicist at Aranzadi and director of the Pamplona planetarium).

DIPC has been supporting Pint of Science as a sponsor for several editions, as well as with the participation of researchers who give talks in our city’s bars: this year Esteban Zingales, Manuel Sánchez del Castillo, Francesc Ballester, Helena Almazán, Gabriel Molina Terriza, Laura Navarro Cozcolluela, Alfredo Manuel Rotundo and Marta Costa Verdugo. Ten years of Pint of Science
Over nine editions, Pint of Science has organised a total of 1,800 events in 750 bars in Spain, involving more than 4,300 researchers and 110,000 attendees. The tenth edition will be the largest in terms of the number of events organised and locations involved.

Pint of Science was born in May 2013 in the UK, when researchers Michael Mostkin and Praveen Paul organised an event in their laboratories to showcase their research to people affected by various mental illnesses. They saw for themselves the great impact it had on these patients, and thought "if people go to the labs... why not bring science to where people are, the pubs?

Little did they know that a few years later, their idea would go around the world, taking place simultaneously on five continents in 2025, with 27 countries taking part. Australian scientists will be the first to raise the bar shutters and toast to knowledge and its dissemination. From there, and with the other host countries, a three-day marathon of science and bars from around the world will begin.

The non-profit association Pint of Science España is the driving force behind the initiative in our country, which has the support and effort of more than 600 volunteers, 13 of them in Donostia, as well as a large number of sponsors and collaborators who make each edition possible.

On 19, 20 and 21 May, the bars will be toasting to science and its dissemination!
Pint of Science 2025 is a free event for all attendees, and it would not be possible if it were not for the collaboration of organisations that sponsor the festival, such as Biogipuzkoa, CFM, CIC biomaGUNE, DIPC, Fomento San Sebastián, CIC nanoGUNE, Polymat, 3DforScience, Labbox, Technoform, CESIF, VHIO, Miltenyi, Plan Complementario, JJNN and Vadillo Asesores throughout Spain and many other local collaborating entities.
