The “Cosmic Rays and Elementary Particles” workshop will consist of an educational experimental demonstration designed to introduce the general public to some fundamental concepts in physics using two classic devices with a strong visual impact: a Van de Graaff generator and a cloud chamber.

In the first part, demonstrations using the Van de Graaff generator will illustrate phenomena related to static electricity, charge accumulation, potential differences and electron transfer. Various effects associated with the electric field will be safely demonstrated, with opportunities for volunteers to participate directly.

In the second part, a cloud chamber will be presented. This detector makes it possible to visualise the tracks of ionising particles originating from background radiation and cosmic rays. Through this demonstration, basic concepts in atomic and particle physics will be introduced, explaining how scientific instruments make phenomena that are invisible to the naked eye observable.

The activity will be dynamic and interactive. Its aim is to spark interest in experimental physics and show how abstract concepts can be understood through hands-on experiences.
