DIPC is looking for a HPC support member and HPC application specialist to join our HPC Supercomputing Center.

The role

Functions:

  • Issue troubleshooting (working answer researcher questions and solve technical problems) related to the DIPC supercomputers. The supercomputing services provided by DIPC are offered to all centers in the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network.
  • Compilation, installation and optimization of HPC software: applications, libraries.
  • Searching for public domain and paid scientific software in the fields demanded by all BERCs researchers.

Desired background & competences

  • Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of GNU/Linux and system administration oriented scripting.
  • Languages: Fluent in English.Familiarity with cluster/HPC environments. This includes acquaintance with batch
    schedulers.

Other skills valued:

  • Familiarity with a research environment (doctoral student, Ph.D., R&D department of a company…).
  • Experience with EasyBuild for application installation.
  • Experience with Docker and Singularity containers for application deployment.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of parallel programming paradigms (OpenMP, MPI, CUDA).
  • Domain application knowledge in one (or more) of these fields: Machine Learning, Statistics/Biostatistics, Cosmology, Condensed Matter, Quantum Chemistry, Molecular Dynamics.
  • Python or Julia programming languages.
  • Capacity for self‐training in configuration and maintenance of changing computer systems.
  • Capacity for teamwork.

The center

DIPC is a research center whose mission is to perform and catalyze cutting-edge research in physics and related disciplines, as well as to convey scientific culture to society. Located in Donostia / San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain), DIPC was born from a strategic alliance of both public institutions and private companies. Since 2008 DIPC is a 'Basque Excellence Research Center' (BERC) recognized by the Basque Government's Department of Education. In 2019, DIPC was also recognized as a "Severo Ochoa" Excellence Center by the Spanish Research Agency.

About the team

It will carry out its work under the supervision of the DIPC Supercomputing Center director.

Selection process

Applications will be evaluated by a committee designed by the DIPC director on the basis of the following criteria (with point weights indicated in parentheses):

‐ CV of the candidate (30%)
‐ Proved experience and its adequacy to the offered position (30%)
‐ Cover letter (10%)
‐ Personal interview (30%)

Those profiles that, at the discretion of the committee, do not meet any of the requirements for the job position will not be evaluated. Furthermore, a minimum of 50 out of 70 in the evaluation of the CV, experience and cover letter will be required to proceed to the personal interview phase.

The final resolution of the selection process will be published on the DIPC website as early as possible.

The DIPC may revoke its decision if the candidate fails to join by the appointed time, in which case the position will be awarded to the candidate with the next highest score, provided it is above 50 (out of 100).

However, the selected candidate may keep the position if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, the candidate duly justifies the reasons why he or she cannot join before the specified deadline, and as long as the project allows it.
