The Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) is seeking a Research Data Manager (RDM) to support the institute’s researchers in the effective planning, organization, curation, and open dissemination of research data, ensuring compliance with FAIR principles, funder and journal requirements, and the efficient operation of the institutional data repository (Dataverse).

The role

The DIPC is seeking a RDM with the following responsibilites:

  • Support researchers in planning, managing, curating, and openly publishing research data.
  • Advise on and support the creation, updating, and compliance of Data Management Plans (DMPs).
  • Provide hands-on guidance to researchers on data organization, documentation, formats, licensing, and publication.
  • Curate, review, and validate datasets prior to publication, ensuring FAIR principles and policy compliance.
  • Manage and operate the institutional data repository (Dataverse).
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional research data policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Design and deliver training on research data management and repository use.
  • Coordinate with internal units (research/project offices, IT) and monitor external funder and Open Science requirements.

Desired background & competences

REQUIRED

  • Solid educational background in physics, chemistry or closely related scientific disciplines with proven research experience (PhD is an asset).
  • Practical experience with generating, organizing, documenting, storing, and sharing research data.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills and ability to work closely with researchers and research support services.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Motivation to transition from an active research role into a Research Data Manager position.
  • Proficiency in English

DESIRED

  • Familiarity with Data Management Plans, FAIR principles, Open Science, and funder data requirements.
  • Experience using research data repositories and/or preparing datasets for publication (Dataverse or similar platforms is an asset).
  • Knowledge of data formats, metadata, licensing, versioning, and long-term preservation practices.
  • Ability to translate research workflows and needs into effective data management solutions.
  • Euskara (intermediate level)

Working conditions

  • Contract duration: Possibility of extension subject to funding.
  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales

Selection process

Applications received by the deadline will be evaluated by a Committee designed by the DIPC board on the basis of the following criteria:

  • CV of the candidate (50%)
  • Brief statement of interest and reference letters (10%)
  • Personal interview (40%)

Evaluation results will be communicated to the candidates soon after. Positions will only be filled if qualified candidates are found.

The DIPC may revoke its decision if the candidate fails to join by the appointed time, in which case the position will be awarded to the candidate with the next highest score, provided it is above 50 (out of 100).

However, the selected candidate may keep the position if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, the candidate duly justifies the reasons why he or she cannot join before the specified deadline, and as long as the project allows it.
