We are currently accepting applications for the above mentioned position. This is a unique opportunity for junior researchers with a recent PhD degree in Physics or related fields to join one of DIPC’s high-profile research teams.
The role
Graphene and related materials have emerged as an ideal solution to combine spin localization and diffusion. These atomically thin materials can be fabricated with atomic precision, opening the door to fabrication of designer structures with precise shape, composition, spin arrangement, and interconnected by graphene electrodes for electrostatic or quantum gates.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate theoretically the interaction and manipulation of localized spins in open-shell graphene nanostructures with other propagating or stationary electronic spins and the nuclear spin environment. The study will use a combination of numerical and analytical techniques and aim for the coherent manipulation of spin qubits and exploring their use for quantum computing or simulation tasks. The work will be carried out at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC).
Desired background & competences
Candidates should be highly motivated researchers with a PhD degree and a strong background in theoretical solid-state physics, excellent communication skills and English knowledge. Previous experience with spin physics (spin qubits and their dynamics, measurement, and decoherence, both analytical and numerical mathods), spin-dependent quantum transport, and quantum information theory would be an advantage.

The research will be carried out in close collaboration with the groups of Thomas Frederiksen and Geza Giedke at DIPC, with strong ties to other theoretical and experimental groups at DIPC and neighboring centers.

Selection process
Applications received by the deadline will be evaluated by a Committee designed by the DIPC board on the basis of the following criteria:
- CV of the candidate (40%)
- Adequacy of the candidate’s scientific background to the project (40%)
- Reference letters (10%)
- Other: Diversity in gender, race, nationality, etc. (10%)
Evaluation results will be communicated to the candidates soon after. Positions will only be filled if qualified candidates are found.
The DIPC may revoke its decision if the candidate fails to join by the appointed time, in which case the position will be awarded to the candidate with the next highest score, provided it is above 50 (out of 100).
However, the selected candidate may keep the position if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, the candidate duly justifies the reasons why he or she cannot join before the specified deadline, and as long as the project allows it.
