How to apply

Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) is looking for qualified candidates with an advanced degree to join its outreach office. The selected person will provide support to the DIPC outreach personnel.

The role

  • Assistance and support in the corporate and digital communication (website, social networks, newsletter, etc.) and follow-up of the impact of the scientific activities carried out by the DIPC
  • Support in the organization, coordination and dissemination of DIPC’s different science-communication and outreach projects and events (actions to promote scientific culture, public lectures, festivals, workshops, ).
  • Support in the preparation and updating of corporate communication material (scientific project dossiers, brochures, ).
  • Assistance and support in writing and/or revising scientific and institutional press releases, sending press releases and media

In addition, he/she will participate in the administrative and management tasks associated to the outreach department of the center.

The quality of the job will need to be consistent with DIPC's excellence in research, and the hired person will directly answer to DIPC's Outreach Team and Director.

 

Desired background & competences

  • Bachelor degree in Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, etc), Communication or equivalent, with accredited experience or specific training in scientific communication (Master's Degree, etc.) and/or research in science.
  • Multilingual competences (Basque, Spanish and English).
  • Immediate availability.

 
Other valuable knowledge:
 
  • Experience in management and development of science outreach programs. Having completed a doctorate degree will be positively valued.
  • Knowledge of an international research environment: research center, university, technology center or similar.

 Personal skills:

  • Awareness of the importance of public understanding of science.

  • Excellent skills to communicate clearly complex information, in writing, orally and visually.

  • Dynamism, initiative, and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

 

Working conditions

  • Contract duration: Replacement contract. Long-term replacement is expected to last, at least, 6 months.
  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales
  • Target start date: 2023/09/01

The center

Located in Donostia / San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain), DIPC was born from a strategic alliance of both public institutions and private companies. Since 2008 DIPC is a 'Basque Excellence Research Center' (BERC) recognized by the Basque Government's Department of Education. In 2019, DIPC was also recognized as a "Severo Ochoa" Excellence Center by the Spanish Research Agency.

About the team

DIPC´s Outreach Team is responsible for the dissemination of the scientific knowledge generated by DIPC researchers, as well as the promotion of public engagement in science through a wide range of outreach projects.

Selection process

Applications received by the deadline will be evaluated by a Committee designed by the DIPC board on the basis of the following criteria:

  • CV of the candidate (25%)
  • Proved experience and its adequacy to the offered position (25%)
  • Cover letter (10%)
  • Personal interview (40%)

Evaluation results will be communicated to the candidates soon after. Positions will only be filled if qualified candidates are found.

Those profiles that, at the discretion of the committee, do not meet any of the requirements for the job position will not be evaluated. Furthermore, a minimum of 50 out of 70 in the evaluation of the CV, experience and cover letter will be required to proceed to the personal interview phase.

However, the selected candidate may keep the position if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, the candidate duly justifies the reasons why he or she cannot join before the specified deadline, and as long as the project allows it.
