Technical Assistant - HPC&IA, Technical Assistant with experience on computing system management and/or computer architecture (Closed)
javier.navaridas@ehu.eus
txomin.romero@ehu.eus
This is a unique opportunity to join one of DIPC’s high-profile research teams.
The role
The Technical Assistant candidate will work in an ambitious research program on reducing the energy consumption of large-scale computing systems, such as DIPC supercomputers ATLAS and HYPERION, through efficient use of available computing and storage resources. For this, a set of intelligent policies for planning and assigning resources will be developed. These policies should be capable of learning the needs of the applications and the characteristics of the systems and, with this in hand, of selecting the optimal time and place to execute the processes. DIPC systems rely on the SLURM scheduler to allow users sharing system resources and will be the target to implement the above-mentioned policies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, or a related field, and should have experience in computer engineering, operating systems, systems management or high-performance computing. Familiarity with the SLURM scheduler is a plus, but not required. The candidate should have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Desired background & competences
The candidate must have a Master in Computer Engineering or related areas, proficiency in speaking and writing in English is essential.
Self-motivated and ability to work in a team and willing to coordinate the research in a particular topic.
A high level of motivation and independent thinking abilities.
Ability and eagerness to learn new skills outside my own discipline.
Presentation skills and being able to meet the deadline are also required.

For the successful candidate, the position represents an excellent opportunity to develop both collaborative and personal scientific research careers, exploiting the capabilities of advanced computing systems and their application.
How to apply
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV and a brief statement of interest to the following application email below.
Reference letters are welcome but not indispensable.
The reference of the specific opening to which the candidate is applying should be stated in the subject line, and the application must be received before the application deadline.
Although candidates are welcome to contact the project supervisors to know further details about the proposed research activity, please be aware that the application will be evaluated only if it is submitted directly to the email address listed below as application email.
- Reference: 2023/47
- Application deadline: 2023/04/21
- Application email: jobs.research@dipc.org
Selection process
Applications received by the deadline will be evaluated by a Committee designed by the DIPC board on the basis of the following criteria:
- CV of the candidate (40%)
- Adequacy of the candidate’s scientific background to the project (40%)
- Reference letters (10%)
- Other: Diversity in gender, race, nationality, etc. (10%)
Evaluation results will be communicated to the candidates soon after. Positions will only be filled if qualified candidates are found.
The DIPC may revoke its decision if the candidate fails to join by the appointed time, in which case the position will be awarded to the candidate with the next highest score, provided it is above 50 (out of 100).
However, the selected candidate may keep the position if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, the candidate duly justifies the reasons why he or she cannot join before the specified deadline, and as long as the project allows it.
