Synopsis of the film:
Sophie is a brilliant student. Encouraged by her maths teacher, she leaves her family farm to attend a prestigious science prepa ratory course. But she soon realises that her dream of entering the Polytechnique is more than a competition—it’s a true challenge in climbing the social ladder.

Guest scientist and format:
Eva Ferreira holds a degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Economics from EHU and a Master’s degree in Probability and Statistics from the Courant Institute at New York University. After the screening, there will be the usual discussion session during which attendees can ask questions.

About the speaker

Born in Barakaldo, Eva Ferreira holds a degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Economics from EHU and a Master’s degree in Probability and Statistics from the Courant Institute at New York University. She has been rector of the EHU for the period 2021-2024, and in previous periods she was vicerector, secretary general at the same university, and director of the Basque University System Quality Agency. In research, she has continuously led competitive projects and research groups and published dozens of articles in leading international journals. These are theoretical and empirical works on probability and statistics in different fields, such as the analysis of the effects of certain drugs, the study of systemic risk in finance, and the modeling of the so-called glass ceiling. She has extensive teaching and science communication experience, participating, among others, in the blog Mujeres con ciencia, Naukas, and Jakin-mina.
