Madrid, 1940s. Pedro is a young doctor who works in an official cancer research center using guinea pigs from North America. When he runs out of guinea pigs, the center’s janitor advises him to turn to “El Muecas”, a friend of his who has raised a pair of guinea pigs to sell them.
First Fernando Cossío will give a brief presentation and after the screening there will be a question and answer session.

About the speaker
Fernando P. Cossío holds a degree in Chemistry (University of Zaragoza) and a PhD from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He was a researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA, USA). Full Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry I of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences (UPV/EHU), he has been Vice-Rector of Research and International Relations (2001-2003) of the UPV/EHU. Since 2009 he is the scientific director of Ikerbasque, the Basque Foundation for Science. He is author of more than 250 publications in international indexed journals, director of 28 PhD theses, he has made numerous scientific contributions, including patents and R&D projects. His main research interests include medicinal chemistry, physical and computational chemistry and, more recently, the frontier between supramolecular chemistry and particle physics. Throughout his scientific career he has received numerous distinctions, some of his recent awards are: Euskadi Research Award (2000), the medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2020), distinction as a member of the Chemistry Europe Fellows class of 2020/21; and since 2023 he is a corresponding academician of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
