Nanoscience and Quantum, really? (in Basque)

Within the program New Paths of Science, Aran García-Lekue, researcher at DIPC, will talk about nanoscience and quantum. After her talk, she will be interviewed and the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions as well.

Quantum phenomena are observed at smaller length and time scales than those common in everyday life, that is, at the nanoscale. In recent decades, advances in the development of nanoscience have made it possible to investigate the physical phenomena occurring at these scales, enabling the exploration and exploitation of the effects of quantum mechanics. The convergence of nanotechnology and quantum science is expanding rapidly and opens the door to new technological developments, such as quantum communication and quantum computing.

The talk will be in Basque (simultaneous translation service is not available). Free admission until full capacity is reached.

About the speaker

Aran Garcia-Lekue is an Ikerbasque researcher at Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC). She has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She has also worked in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and Denmark. Her research comprises the development and application of computational tools for the simulation of electronic quantum properties at the nanoscale. Her main research lines in recent years have been focused on molecular electronics and low-dimensional materials, specifically on graphene nanostructures. In fact, these materials have a great future in nanoelectronics and quantum computing. She is committed to scientific communication and to promoting the visibility of women in science, as she participates in activities for general audiences.
