This is the biography of the most prestigious Basque scientist: physicist Pedro Miguel Etxenike Landiribar. Internationally recognized, he is a man committed to science and to his country.
After earning his doctorate at the legendary Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, at the age of twenty-nine he served as Education Minister to the first democratic Basque Government. He was tasked with creating the new model for Basque schools, promoting the standardization of the Basque language, advancing the University of the Basque Country (EHU), and designing a pioneering science policy that has placed the Basque Autonomous Community at the forefront of the state.
His return to teaching and research did not make him forget his commitment to society, as evidenced by the creation of centers of research excellence, including the DIPC and nanoGUNE.
The Navarrese scholar reflects on his life, experiences, and journey, offering insightful reflections on a wide range of topics: science, research, politics, education, academia, culture, and the challenges of today’s society.
The second part of the book features the perspectives of fourteen people close to Etxenike, whose valuable testimonies help complete the portrait of this remarkable figure.
