The manifesto, the outcome of a collective reflection process, brings together the actions to inspire science of the future.

Emakumeak Zientzian concludes its tenth edition with a manifesto for science of the future
10th anniversary of the Emakumeak Zientzian initiative in the Aquarium of San Sebastian.

The event was attended by Ane Oiarbide (Fomento San Sebastián), Jon Gurrutxaga (Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa), Ander Larrinaga (Provincial Council of Álava) and Eider Mendoza, Head of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, together with representatives of all the participating organisations, collaborating bodies and the volunteers who made the various activities possible. Maitena Salinas hosted the event in a festive atmosphere, accompanied by the music of Janus Lester, who sang the song ‘Ertzak’ that he composed in 2023 as the anthem of Emakumeak Zientzian, thus highlighting the collaboration, the collective effort and the hope that marked this tenth edition.

Emakumeak Zientzian announced its manifesto and plan of action, a document that sets out the alliance’s commitment to tackling structural inequalities from an intersectional perspective. The text establishes nine lines of action aimed at reinforcing the visibility of women scientists, democratising access to knowledge and promoting more equitable and co-responsible working environments, with the aim of moving towards a fairer scientific and technological ecosystem. This manifesto represents an ethical commitment shared by the organisations that make up Emakumeak Zientzian and invites other organisations and institutions to join in these actions so that, together, everyone can build science of the future: https://emakumeakzientzian.eus/manifestua/

With the slogan “Marea bizia gara” / “We are the spring tide”, thirty-four Basque organisations emphasised the strength of collectivity, thus bringing the tenth edition of Emakumeak Zientzian to a close with its sights set on the future. The organisers gave a very positive assessment of this tenth edition, marked by the high number of activities, the high level of participation and the wide media coverage achieved. The final assessment left an excellent aftertaste and reinforced the collective commitment to go on growing and joining forces in the forthcoming editions.

So the organisers were keen to express their sincere gratitude to all the participating organisations for their involvement and commitment to this tenth edition, which, once again, highlighted the strength of the scientific and technological ecosystem and the importance of collaborative work. Thanks to their support, Emakumeak Zientzian continues to grow and bring science closer to the general public. We look forward to meeting again next year to continue moving forward together on this shared journey.
