Synopsis of the film:
Isabel’s life takes an unexpected turn when her daughter asks her to visit Ramón, who is ill. After fifteen years away from her ex-husband, he now feels like a stranger, despite the family they once were. Feelings Isabel believed long forgotten begin to resurface.
Guest scientist and format:
The session will be presented by Pilar Palomero, director of the film, and Ander Urruticoechea Ribate, doctor of medicine and specialist in medical oncology. After the screening, there will be the usual discussion session during which attendees will be able to ask questions.
Beforehand, both will participate in a round table discussion entitled ‘The end of life: literature, cinema and science’, moderated by the scientific director of BioGipuzkoa, Itziar Vergara. The round table will take place in Z Aretoa at Tabakalera at 6:00 p.m. More information: [+INFO]

About the speaker

Ander Urruticoechea Ribate (Pasaia, 1971) holds a PhD in medicine and is a specialist in medical oncology. He has developed his career in healthcare and research in breast cancer in Pamplona, London, Barcelona, and San Sebastián, where he was director of Onkologikoa (2013–2025). He is currently a medical oncologist and researcher at OSI Donostialdea and BioGipuzkoa. Professor of oncology at the University of Deusto. Author of numerous publications and president of the Spanish Breast Cancer Research Group.

Pilar Palomero is a director and screenwriter. Her debut film Las niñas was the big winner at the 2021 Goya Awards, where it received nine nominations and four awards. Her second feature film, La maternal, received three Goya Award nominations and was selected for the Official Selection at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it won the Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance. Los destellos was her third feature film.
It was also selected for the Official Selection at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
