As is tradition, the Cinema and Science series includes special screenings for schools in Donostia/San Sebastian, Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz in Basque and Spanish.

This year, the Japanese animated film Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind (Hayao Miyazaki, 1984) will be screened. The film addresses pollution and the ecological crisis on Earth through the story of Princess Nausicaä, who fights for coexistence between humanity and nature. The subsequent conferenced will be delivered by members gs from IHOBE, the Basque Government's Public Environmental Management Organisation.

In this sesion the lecture will be delivered by Itxaso Bengoetxea, environmental technician at IHOBE.

The film will be screened in Japanese with subtitles in Basque. The lecture will also be in Basque.

About the speaker

Itxaso Bengoetxea Larrinaga has a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of the Basque Country and has completed the Climate Change Science, Communication, and Action course at the Civic Ecology Lab (Cornell Institute for Climate Smart Solutions and Cornell Cooperative Extension). She is currently an environmental technician at IHOBE, the Basque Government's Public Environmental Management Organisation. She has experience in public administration and the private sector, specializing in sustainability, environmental policy and project management. She has participated in initiatives related to strategic planning and governance for sustainability. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Gernika Gogoratuz Foundation, where she contributes to the promotion of programs related to the culture of peace, memory and sustainability. She is also part of UNESCO's Earth Charter, participating in the promotion of values oriented towards social justice, sustainability and the construction of resilient communities.
