Quantum Information Processing exploits quantum effects to improve information processing. It requires tight control of well-defined individual quantum systems: preparing their state, their interactions, and their decoherence. We study ways to realize basic quantum protocols in solid-state systems based on electron spins in quantum dots and other defects and using surface acoustic waves and electromagnetic fields.

The task in this summer project will be determined together with the student. Possible topics are (i) analyzing the effect of spin-orbit interaction for in the quantum simulator using electrons trapped in acoustic lattices (ii) controlling the nuclear spin bath of a double quantum dot and investigating the multistability in dynamical nuclear spin polarization and (iii) entanglement distillation for noisy Gaussian fermionic states.
