Recent experiments on Ta-based heterostructures indicate the presence of an unconventional superconducting state. These heterostructures are 'sandwiches' of metallic and strongly correlated electronic layers, with great potential for the emergence of exotic phases of matter. During the project the student will build a minimal theoretical model to describe the electronic normal state, and include a pairing interaction to obtain and characterize the possible superconducting ground states in these heterostructures. There will be a strong collaboration with the experimental group of M. Ugeda at DIPC, who is actively working on these systems.
