Cosmological Simulations

Internship
Type of Project: Theory Project
Location: Donostia
Supervisor: Raul Angulo
In this internship, you will learn about numerical simulations in cosmology and how we can create three-dimensional virtual universes to study fundamental aspects of the Universe. First, we will design simulations of large regions of the cosmos, with which we will vary the amount of dark matter, dark energy, and other cosmic ingredients. Then, we will compute statistics that summarise the spatial distribution of galaxies. Finally, we will compare these expectations with the same measurement in the real cosmos, seeking to identify the specific theories that best describe the universe that surrounds us. A strong interest in scientific computing is a plus, but no prior knowledge of cosmology is required.
