Synopsis of the film:
According to a village’s ancient tradition, once a person turns seventy they must leave the village and go to live on the summit of Mount Narayama. A ruthless death sentence that plunges families into grief and despair as they send their elders away.
Guest scientist and format:
María Jesús Goikoetxea Iturregui holds a PhD in Human Rights and a degree in Psychology and Theology, and she is a researcher and lecturer at the University of Deusto. After the screening, there will be the usual discussion session during which attendees can ask questions.

About the speaker

María Jesús Goikoetxea Iturregui is doctor in Human Rights and graduate in Psychology and Theology, and she is a researcher and lecturer at the University of Deusto. She currently researches and teaches in the Psychology degree program and several postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences. In recent years, she has worked on aspects of ethics and social services (good treatment and abuse; autonomy and dependence; violence; long-term care models) and bioethics (ethical conflicts at the end of life and in mental health). She also works as a clinical psychologist with people with advanced illnesses and as a consultant for the development of ethics with various public administrations and the third sector. Member of the Socio-Health Commission of Ethics Committees of the Basque Country, the Ethics Committee for Social Intervention of Bizkaia, and the National Ethics Committee for Full Inclusion.
