As is tradition, the Cinema and Science series includes special screenings for schools in Donostia/San Sebastian, Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz in Basque and Spanish.

This year, the Japanese animated film Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind (Hayao Miyazaki, 1984) will be screened. The film addresses pollution and the ecological crisis on Earth through the story of Princess Nausicaä, who fights for coexistence between humanity and nature. The subsequent conferenced will be delivered by members gs from IHOBE, the Basque Government's Public Environmental Management Organisation.

In this sesion the lecture will be delivered by Iñaki Susaeta, environmental technician at IHOBE.

The film will be screened in Japanese with subtitles in Spanish. The lecture will also be in Spanish.

About the speaker

Iñaki Susaeta Elorriaga holds a degree in Science from the University of Navarra and a Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Basque Country. He completed his studies with a research stay in Biotechnology at Wageningen Agricultural University (Netherlands) and he was a Visiting Researcher at the Stevens Institute of Technology (USA). He is currently an environmental technician at IHOBE, the Basque Government's Public Environmental Management Organisation, with more than 38 years of experience in public administration, research and education organisations and the private sector. A lecturer on the Master's Degree in Environmental Agrobiology at the University of the Basque Country from 2006 to 2021, he has extensive experience in coordinating international R&D&I projects. He has also been a member of the Ministry of Science and Technology's Expert Committee and the European Commission's Committee for the evaluation and selection of grant applications in environmental areas.
