Women Scientists of Yesterday and Today is one of the most special activities in the Emakumeak Zientzian programme, an event that connects the past and present to raise the profile of women in science. Five female scientists currently working at research centres in Gipuzkoa will take to the stage at the Victoria Eugenia Club Room to share their professional experience and explain, in a friendly and accessible way, what they are researching today and what their day-to-day life as scientists is like.
Each of them will also pay tribute to a female scientist or technologist from the past, reviving key figures whose contributions were fundamental but who remained invisible for a long time. Through the story of their lives and discoveries, the activity combines scientific dissemination and memory.
Claire Tonnelé (Ikerbasque Fellow, DIPC) pays tribute to Arianna Wright Rosenbluth
Irune Villaluenga Arranz (Ikerbasque Associate Professor – POLYMAT) pays tribute to Hertha Marks Ayrton
Libe Mori Carrascal (Teacher and Researcher- EHU Faculty of Computer Science) pays tribute to Caroline Haslett
Idoia Mikelez Alonso Postdoctoral researcher - CIC biomaGUNE
Ane Etxebarria Dueñas (Postdoctoral researcher - EHU Chemistry Faculty) will pay tribute to Irène Joliot-Curie
Women Scientists of Yesterday and Today is, in short, an act of recognition and justice: a tribute to the women who paved the way and an open window to highlight those who continue to build knowledge today.
