35 scientific-technological entities have joined forces to achieve these objectives: To make women scientists more visible. To break stereotypes. To encourage scientific vocations.
Emakumeak Zientzian

In order to ensure full and equal access and participation in science for women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly decided in 2016 to proclaim 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The Emakumeak Zientzian initiative took its first steps in 2017 and year after year it has grown and strengthened. In 2022 Emakumeak Zientzian received the First STEAM Euskadi Award and the award for the special mention of gender perspective in the category of Most Innovative STEAM Education Initiative granted by the Basque Government Department of Education and Innobasque.

In 2025, 35 Basque scientific and technological entities are joining forces around the Emakumeak Zientzian project, thus declaring their commitment to the aims of the initiative: to bring visibility to the activity of women in science, to break with the typically male roles attributed to scientific and technical activities, and to encourage girls and adolescents to opt for scientific careers. With these aims in mind, the scientific-technological entities representing the Basque Country's science and technology fabric have joined forces to present a full programme of activities intended for all audiences.
