An interdisciplinary programme that crosses the border between art, literature and science
Mestizajes

Mestizajes is an ambitious interdisciplinary programme of DIPC that crosses the border between art, literature and science to create fertile ground for the generation of new ideas through conferences, seminars, residencies, publications, research projects and collaborations. The project is directed by Gustavo Ariel Schwartz (CFM CSIC-UPV/EHU).

Over the years, Mestizajes has promoted several initiatives, including the International Meetings on Literature and Science every three years, the Writers in Residence programme and the research programme on Complex Network Models and Artificial Intelligence Applied to Cultural Analytics, promoted in collaboration with the digital humanities laboratory The CulturePlex Lab in Canada.

Cartel-La-entrevista.jpegThe interview is a play written by writer Luisa Etxenike and physicist and writer Gustavo Ariel Schwartz, in a transdisciplinary, novel and innovative collaboration that puts on stage the most human side of science. It was premiered in 2013 at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in Donostia/San Sebastián, and then performed in Bilbao, Vitoria and Pamplona in the context of the Passion for Knowledge International Festival 2013 organised by DIPC. The Spanish version of The Interview, in digital format, can be downloaded free of charge on this link. The English version is available here. The Basque version will soon be available on the same website.

The photobook and exhibition Creativium proposes a two-way reflection between the artistic and scientific worlds through artistic photographs of scientists in their daily activities, connected through texts that reflect on creativity and creative processes.

The book #Nodes is a collective work in which 89 scientists, writers, artists and humanists reflect on various topics that, due to their complexity, necessarily require a transdisciplinary approach. An intellectual adventure that explores the frontiers between different fields of knowledge.
