History of Science
“When and where was such and such other thing discovered? By whom?” The answers to this kind of questions, while possibly interesting, add little to the understanding of science. They are chronologies, not history.
DIPC, together with the group Integrated History and Philosophy of Science (iHPS) of the University of the Basque Country (EHU), organizes a monthly colloquium with professional historians of science aimed at broadening the formative activities of scientific researchers as well as reaching out to the general public on matters related to the history of science.
These seminars will help better understand the multifarious ways in which specific scientific theories, disciplines or institutions have come into being, evolved or even disappeared. They will also address the interactions between science and other cultural activities and explore past and present societal roles of specific sciences or science at large.
The semianr will be held in Spanish in the DIPC auditorium.
